One day, a crow found a piece of bread and sat on a tree to eat it. A jackal, passing by, saw the bread and wanted it for himself. He thought of a trick and said, “Oh, dear crow, I have heard that your voice is the sweetest of all birds! Will you sing a song for me?”

The crow, flattered by the praise, opened its beak to sing, and the bread fell to the ground.

The jackal quickly grabbed it and ran away, laughing at the foolish crow. The crow felt ashamed and realized that he had been tricked. From that day on, he never believed in false praise again.

Moral: Beware of flattery; it can deceive you.

Once there lived a beautiful peacock in a jungle. Peacock was proud of his beautiful feathers and often boasted about them. He looked down upon other birds, especially the crow, for being plain.

One day, a heavy storm came, and the peacock's feathers became soaked, making it difficult for him to move. Meanwhile, the crow, though not as beautiful, flew away easily and found shelter. When the storm passed, the peacock realized that his beauty was useless in times of trouble.

He felt ashamed and understood that every creature has its own strengths. From that day, he stopped mocking others.

Moral: True strength lies in ability, not appearance.

Once upon a time there lived a kind-hearted deer in a dense forest. One fine day deer met a hungry fox nearby a pond. Deer just shared his food and remain silent.

The fox, being cunning, saw an opportunity to benefit himself. He went to a hunter and told him where the deer could be found. The hunter set a trap to catch the deer. However, the clever deer noticed the trap and escaped just in time.

The fox, thinking he would get a reward, went near the hunter, but the hunter caught him instead. The deer, from a distance, saw what happened and realized that betrayal leads to destruction. The fox, filled with regret, wished he had been honest.

Moral: Betrayal leads to downfall.

In a dense forest many animals lived. A jackal always boosting that he is the most efficient animal in this jungle. Jackal saw a lion feasting on a deer.

He wanted a share but was too afraid to ask. He decided to wait until the lion was finished. However, as the lion ate, the jackal grew impatient. He crept closer to grab a bite before the lion left.

Just then, the lion noticed him and roared angrily. The frightened jackal ran away, but in his hurry, he tripped and fell into a thorny bush.

Injured and humiliated, the jackal realized that if he had been patient, he could have safely eaten later.

Moral: Greed and impatience lead to trouble.

Once upon a time there was a rich farmer lived with his four sons in a small village. He had worked hard all his life. But he had grown old and was ailing. He had four sons. His sons were too lazy. They didn't feel to work with his father. All day long they move around the field. They all were depends upon their father. They didn't even goes to their farm to help their father. The farmer was too old and lie to the bed for his last breath. He wanted to be sure that after his death, his sons would give the same attention to the farm as he had given throughout his life.

He called all his sons to his bedside and said, “My sons, I have something important to share with all of you. There is a great treasure lying hidden in one of our vineyards. If you dig properly, you will able to find it and you all will live happily.”

Some days later the farmer taken his last breath. After the farmer’s death, they all started digging every portion of the field. They continued to dig for days and days but did not found the hidden treasure. But their hard work did not go in vain. This time the vines produced an abundant crop of high quality. They started selling it with a good price and they became rich very soon. They realized the meaning of the treasure their father had talked about.

Once upon a time there lived a large number of birds in an aviary. They were all very friendly and affectionate to each other. Every morning and evening they all sang songs together. The birds were well fed by its keeper. So they all looked pretty and fluffy. A wicked cat noticed these birds and its mouth often watered to have the birds as its prey. So it was expecting for an opportunity to enter into the aviary. Unluckily, an infectious disease broke out in the aviary. As a result, most of the birds fell ill. The bird-keeper felt anxious and looked for a doctor. While he was inquiring about a doctor, the wicked cat overheard his talk.

The wicked cat started making plans to reach the aviary somehow or other. Thinking hard, the cat decided to gain entry into the aviary as a doctor in order to fulfill her wish. So the cat dressed herself as a doctor. Taking a number of medicines with her she approached the aviary keeper.

The aviary-keeper being busy at that time asked the cat to do her duty as a doctor. Expecting this situation the cat entered the aviary door. With triumphal look she asked the birds, “How are you all, friends? I have come here to cure you. Here are the medicines for your treatment.” But all the birds understood that the cat had come in the disguise of a doctor. “We are quite Ok Mr. Cat and we don’t need any nursing from you. Please leave us alone” cried the birds. The cat was afraid that the aviary-keeper would come on hearing the cry of birds. So it ran away.

Moral : Wise peoples are taken seldom.

Once there lived some cows in a shed of the master. The cows used to eat hay from the manager. One day a herd of cows came to the manager to eat hay. They saw a dog lying on the hay in the manager.

One of the cows pleaded to the dog, “Please, will you get up! We are hungry. We have to eat our hay”. The dog didn't reply to her. It lies down the same it was. Once again another cow pleaded, “Please, let us have our hay”. The dog snarled and the cow stepped back.

A wise cow ran up to the bull and told him the matter. The bull came and requested, “Get out, from the manger ! Let them have their food”. There was no reply. The bull became angry. He bellowed loudly and stamped his legs. The dog got frightened and ran for his life.

Moral: It is no good to to be Dog in a manager, it is better for a watchman.

Once a dog was relaxing in a garden when it saw a cat on the top of a high wall. It thought, " It must be so nice to be high above the ground. If only I could climb?” This feeling of envy made it so bad-tempered, that it didn’t even wag its tail at its master, who came to give him some milk. Then it saw a goldfish in the river and wished that it too could live in the cold water.Envy made it angry once again.

Just then it heard the fish say, ” It looks so nice and warm on the grass. I wish I could lie down on it.” After some time, a sparrow flew past. Seeing the dog lazing around, it said aloud, ” I wish I could play the whole day like this dog. I wish I didn’t have to build a nest for myself, search for food and tire my wings.”

Listening to them, the dog realized its folly for not appreciating what it had.

Once upon a time there was a fox walking near a well. Somehow by incident he slipped in. It was not a very deep well. He tried his best to get out but could not.

At that time a very thirsty goat passed by the well and saw the fox there. She asked the fox what he was doing there.

The cunning fox replied that he had himself jumped into the well. I find it very cool and pleasant. If you want to drink sweet and cold water, come down and experience the pleasure here.

Without thinking of the result she jumped into the well. The fox at once jumped on her back, and with another jump he was out of well. The fox smiled at the poor goat and went his way leaving behind the goat to repent.

Moral:

Look before you leap.

There was a small garden. Where a carpenter was working with logs for building a chariot. Regularly, he would start work in the morning and afternoon he take a break for the mid-day meals, and return again for his work till evening.

One day the carpenter was cutting a huge log of wood. Since, it was only half-done; he placed a wedge in between to prevent the log from closing gap. He then went off for his meal.

That day a group of monkey watching the carpenters work near by the tree. When the carpenter was gone for lunch, the monkeys came down from the trees and started jumping around the site, and playing with the instruments.

There was one monkey, who got curious about the wedge placed between the log. He sat down on the log, and having placed himself in between the half-split log, caught hold of the wedge and started pulling at it himself.

All of a sudden, the wedge came out. As a result, the half-split log closed in and the monkey got caught in the gap of the log. He tried a lot to get out with pain from the log but it was not enough to get rid of this whole. Finally he died with pain.

Once upon a time there was a garden, where lived an ant and a grasshopper who were very good friends. It was springtime and the grasshopper was having a lot of fun playing, singing, and dancing in the sun. But the ant was hardworking. It was collecting food grains and storing them in its house.

The grasshopper did not understand why the ant was doing so and said, “Hey,’ Ant! Why don’t you come outside and play with me?” The ant replied, “I cannot. I am storing food for the winter when there won’t be anything to eat!” The grasshopper only laughed at the ant and said, “Why are you worrying now? There is plenty of food!” and continued to play, while the ant worked hard. When winter came, the grasshopper did not find a single grain of food to eat. It began to starve and feel very weak. The grasshopper saw how the hardworking ant had plenty of food to eat and realized its foolishness.

Once there was a beautiful girl named Cinderella living in a village inside a kingdom. She lived with her wicked stepmother and two step sisters. They treated Cinderella very badly. One day, they were invited for a grand ball in the king’s palace. But Cinderella’s stepmother would not let her go. Cinderella was made to sew new party gowns for her stepmother and stepsisters, and curl their hair. They then went to the ball, leaving Cinderella alone at home.

Cinderella felt very sad and began to cry. Suddenly, a fairy godmother appeared and said, “Don’t cry, Cinderella! I will send you to the ball!” But Cinderella was sad. She said, “I don’t have a gown to wear for the ball!” The fairy godmother waved her magic wand and changed Cinderella’s old clothes into a beautiful new gown! The fairy godmother then touched Cinderella’s feet with the magic wand. And lo! She had beautiful glass slippers! “How will I go to the grand ball?” asked Cinderella. The fairy godmother found six mice playing near a pumpkin, in the kitchen. She touched them with her magic wand and the mice became four shiny black horses and two coachmen and the pumpkin turned into a golden coach. Cinderella was overjoyed and set off for the ball in the coach drawn by the six black horses. Before leaving the fairy said, “Cinderella, this magic will only last until midnight! You must reach home by then!”

When Cinderella entered the palace, everybody was struck by her beauty. Nobody, not even Cinderella’s stepmother or stepsisters, knew who she really was in her pretty clothes and shoes. The handsome prince also saw her and fell in love with Cinderella. He went to her and asked, “Do you want to dance?” And Cinderella said, “Yes!” The prince danced with her all night and nobody recognized the beautiful dancer. Cinderella was so happy dancing with the prince that she almost forgot what the fairy godmother had said. At the last moment, Cinderella remembered her fairy godmother’s words and she rushed to go home. “Oh! I must go!” she cried and ran out of the palace. One of her glass slippers came off but Cinderella did not turn back for it. She reached home just as the clock struck twelve. Her coach turned back into a pumpkin, the horses into mice and her fine ball gown into rags. Her stepmother and stepsisters reached home shortly after that. They were talking about the beautiful lady who had been dancing with the prince.

The prince had fallen in love with Cinderella and wanted to find out who the beautiful girl was, but he did not even know her name. He found the glass slipper that had come off Cinderella’s foot as she ran home. The prince said, “I will find her. The lady whose foot fits this slipper will be the one I marry!” The next day, the prince and his servants took the glass slipper and went to all the houses in the kingdom. They wanted to find the lady whose feet would fit in the slipper. All the women in the kingdom tried the slipper but it would not fit any of them. Cinderella’s stepsisters also tried on the little glass slipper. They tried to squeeze their feet and push hard into the slipper, but the servant was afraid the slipper would break. Cinderella’s stepmother would not let her try the slipper on, but the prince saw her and said, “Let her also try on the slipper!” The slipper fit her perfectly. The prince recognized her from the ball. He married Cinderella and together they lived happily ever after.

Once upon a time there was a bear living in a dense forest. He came across a log where a swarm of bees had nested to make their honey. As he snooped around, a single little bee flew out of the log to protect the swarm. Knowing that the bear would eat all the honey, the little bee stung him sharply on the nose and then disappeared into the hollow log.

The bear lost his temper in an instant, and sprang upon the log in his tooth and claws, to destroy the nest. Immediately the whole bees came out of the log and began to sting the bear from head to heel. The bear saved himself by running and diving into a pool of water.

Once upon a time there lived some boys in a small village. There was a pond in the end of their village. One day they were playing at the edge of a pond in which lived a family of frogs. The boys amused themselves by throwing stones into the pond so as to make them skip on top of the water. They were very happy to doing these types of naughtiness.

The stones were flying solid and fast and the boys were enjoying themselves very much; but the poor frogs in the pond were trembling with fear. Some of them already died with this hard stone.

At last one of the frogs, the youngest and bravest, put his head out of the water, and said, “Oh my dear friends please stop your ruthless play! Though it may be fun for you, it means death to us!”

Moral: Always think whether your fun is the cause of another’s unhappiness. If yes then stop this fun.

Once upon a time there lived a kind woman who had no children, longed for a baby and would often say, “How I would love to have a baby girl, even a tiny little one.” One fine morning a beautiful fairy heard her wish, and gave her a little seed to plant in a flowerpot. When the seed bloomed into a tulip, the woman saw a tiny, beautiful girl inside, no bigger than her thumb. She decided to call her Thumbelina. She was so small that she had a walnut shell for a bed and used petals as a blanket.

Then, an ugly toad fell in love with Thumbelina. One night when she was sleeping, he carried her off to his lily pad in a pond. Thumbelina was very unhappy. A swallow was passing by and saw how sad she looked, and said, “Come south with me to warmer lands.”

Young Thumbelina flew away on the swallow’s back. They flew across the seas and came to a land of sunshine. The swallow said, ” This is my home. You can live in one of the loveliest and biggest flowers.” When Thumbelina stepped inside, she found a handsome fairy, as tiny as her, in its heart.

He was the son of the king of flowers and he fell in love with Thumbelina. He asked her to marry him. So Thumbelina became queen of the flowers and the two lived happily ever after.

Once upon a time there lived a lion in a deep forest. He was the king of that forest. It was sleeping under a tree near a pond. As his eyes were closing, he heard a new sound. He opened his eyes, but he didn’t see anyone! Then, he heard it a second, and a third time. By now, the Lion was scared and thought in fear, `What if it was a ghost?’

The noise was continuously coming from the pond. So the lion was annoyed as it was not able to sleep. There was frog in the pond. After some time, the frog crawled out of the pond and croaked. The Lion saw that he had been scared out of his wits by so small a creature! The lion grew angry and roared at the frog. The frog got frightened. The lion jumped into the pond to catch the frog. Then the frog realized its mistake and tried to escape from the lion by jumping the bush. But the lion caught the frog and tore it with his claws.

Once upon a time a jackal lived in a deep forest. While he is search of food he found a dead elephant. He was hungry but was unable to pierce the thick hide of the elephant. Suddenly a lion appeared on the scene. The jackal thought of a wonderful plan to get rid of the lion. He said, O king of jungle. I have killed this elephant for you.

You are welcome to enjoy the feast.” The lion said that lions do not eat animals killed by others and went away. Now a tiger came from somewhere. The jackal said that the elephant was killed by a lion and he was guarding the carcass till the lion returns from bath. The tiger ran for his life hearing the name of the lion. Then a leopard came.

The jackal said that leopard can enjoy some food till the lion returns. The leopard was apprehensive but jackal said that it would alert the leopard if lion comes in sight. Once the leopard pierced the elephants hide the jackal shouted that the lion was coming and leopard left the scene. With his intelligence the jackal was able to enjoy his food.

Once upon a time there lived a greedy and cunning wolf in a forest. One day, while he was having his dinner, a bone got stuck into his throat. He could get it neither up nor down, and of course he could not eat a thing. Naturally that was an awful state of affairs for a greedy Wolf.

The wolf began purring with pain. The pain was unbearable. The wolf got worried and began thinking, what will happen if the bone doesn't come out. I won't be able to eat anything. I will starve to death."

Suddenly he recalled that there was a crane that lived on the banks of a nearby lake. He immediately went to the crane and said, "My friend, I've a bone stuck deep into my throat. If you could please pull it out of my throat with your long beak, I will reward you very handsomely said the Wolf.

The crane saw his pitiable condition and agreed to help him. He put him long beak, and in the process, half of his neck also, deep into the throat of the wolf and pulled the bone out. The wolf got relaxed and started walk away. Hello, “will you kindly give me the reward you promised?” said the crane.

“What!” scrambled the Wolf, whirling around? “Haven’t you got it? Isn’t it enough that I let you take your head out of my mouth without snapping it off?”

Once upon a time there were three little pigs living in a small village. All of them building different houses for staying inside. One pig built a house of straw while the second pig built his house with sticks. They built their houses very quickly and then sang and danced all day long because they were too lazy. The third little pig worked hard all day and built his house with bricks.

One day a big wicked wolf saw the two little pigs while they were dancing and playing outside of there house. The wolf thought, “What juicy tender meals they will make! If I can catch them I will be very happy to eat them.” He chased the two little pigs and they ran and hid in their houses. The big wicked wolf went to the first house and huffed and puffed and blew the house down in minutes. The frightened little pig ran to the second pig’s house which was made of sticks. The big wicked wolf now came to the 2nd house and huffed and puffed and blew the house down in without any pain. Now, the two little pigs were terrified and ran to the third pig’s house that was made with bricks.

The wicked wolf tried to huff and puff and blow the house down, but he could not. He kept trying for hours but the house was very strong and the little pigs were safe inside. He tried to enter through the chimney but the third little pig boiled a big pot of water and kept it below the chimney. The wolf fill too hot and his paws and whole body was burned into it and went away with pain.

The two little pigs now felt sorry for having been so lazy. They too built their own houses with bricks and lived happily ever after.

Once upon a time there lived a furious lion in a dense forest. It was a greedy lion and started killing animals in the forest. Seeing this, the animals gathered and decided to approach the lion with the offer of one animal of each day to reach to the lion. He only can eaten by the lion everyday.

So every day it was the turn of one of the animals and in the middle of a day came the rabbits’ turn. The rabbit was wise and old. It took its own time to reach the Lion. The Lion was getting angry on not seeing any animal. He decided that tomorrow I will kill all of them.

Then at the evening the rabbit came to the lion. The Lion was angry at him and said you came very late and you are very small to be my food. I will kill you now. The rabbit told I am sorry my majesty! While I am coming on the way one more lion said to me I am king of this Jungle. I will kill you. Then I said that I am going to my King. He wants to meet you now.

The Lion was naturally very angry and asked to be taken to the place now.

The wise rabbit agreed and led the Lion towards a deep well filled with water. Then he showed the Lion his reflection in the water of the well. The Lion was furious and started growling and its image in the water, the other Lion, was also equally angry.

Then he roared to him and jumped into the water to kill him. At last he lost its life in the well. Thus the wise rabbit saved the forest and its friends from the Lion.
